My name is Qian.

I am working with a team to create a startup. We are creating a third space that acts as a new and improved "local". The traditional local coffeshop or bar acted as the space for people to get together with neighbors and discuss politics, news, current affairs. We are finding that cities these days feel increasingly more isolating, and want this new space to encourage interaction and communication among community members.

We hope that this space serves underserved communities, and are currently conducting ethnographic research in selected neighborhoods in the Greater Boston area to identify the narratives that run through these communities. This is a difficult and very new endeavor for me, but I am extremely excited to see the growth of our startup.

My passions: I've been a serious runner for a few years now—I finished the 2016 Baltimore Marathon in 4:22, and finished the 2017 Baystate Marathon in 4:04. My goal is to qualify for Boston within the next five years. I have a Black Belt in Taekwondo and love my TKD family more than anything. I am in the Mercury Orchestra, a community orchestra based in Somerville, and my favorite solo violin piece is the Bach Chaconne. Can't get enough of it, just like I can't get enough of Justin Beiber's Sorry. I'm currently reading Jane Jacob's 'The Death and Life of Great American Cities'. I love any book on philosophical or biological anthropology. I've killed two succulents, which are characteristically extremely hard-to-kill plants, but I really enjoy having the ones that stay alive.
